Struggling to survive

For many Americans, lack of affordable housing as well as the limited scale of housing assistance programs, have contributed to the current housing crisis and to homelessness. Lack of income, or simply inadequate income, has put permanent housing out of reach for many individuals and families. In every state, more than the minimum wage is required to afford a one or two bedroom apartment at Fair Market Rent.

For the thousands struggling to survive, one serious illness or disability can begin a downward spiral beginning with a lost job, depletion of savings to pay for care, and eventual eviction. The end is almost always the same - homelessness. Because those who experience homelessness are often seen as the cause of their own misfortunes (drugs, alcohol), the socioeconomic conditions that result in homelessness are too readily ignored.

Domestic violence is another reason many people are living on the streets. Nationally, approximately half of all women and children living in shelters or experiencing homelessness are fleeing some type of domestic violence.

“Everyone is just one step away from being homeless. In today's economy, all it takes is one lost job or set of bad circumstances and anyone could be on the street.”

Who we are

Scenic City Ark Ministry began in November of 2013 when a small group of friends decided to do something about their hungry neighbors. In time they were joined by others that have a strong desire to help people. By God’s Grace, that small effort blossomed to become Scenic City ARK (Acts of Random Kindness), a nonprofit, 501-c3 organization.

Our Mission

Scenic City ARK shares physical and spiritual food for the hungry and gives hope, love and compassion to all. We provide whatever is needed to as many people as possible to aid them in becoming self-sustaining, productive members of society. To accomplish this mission, we are continually searching for new service opportunities, welcoming new resources, and relying on the example of never ending Love and Grace as defined by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

What we do

The Ministry of Scenic City ARK is a powerful outreach to those who are living on the street, in temporary housing, or in immediate need of life's necessities. By using Christ’s example of one-to-one relationships, we bring resources, encouragement, and friendship. Scenic City ARK is dedicated to improving the quality of life by volunteering our time, skills, and resources to the people of our community.

Scenic City ARK does what it can to provide a safe environment for volunteers of all ages.

Along with taking an active part in providing for the less fortunate, Scenic City ARK is now helping coordinate some of the outreach efforts of many churches and volunteer organizations in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas. These groups provide meals, clothing, and other donated items to those in need.
